Wallfit – A Solution for More Efficient HVAC System Modernization
The need to improve energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings is driving new approaches to the modernisation of HVAC systems. In this context, WALLFIT stands out as a technically effective, economically competitive and environmentally sustainable alternative, enabling the performance of existing systems to be improved without requiring their complete replacement.
It was with this vision that Arfit developed WALLFIT, a retrofit solution designed to modernise Air Handling Units (AHUs) by replacing conventional fans with FanWall systems equipped with electronically commutated (EC) motors.
Many AHUs continue to have structures that are in good condition, but rely on ventilation technologies that no longer meet current requirements for efficiency, control and monitoring. WALLFIT enables these existing units to be upgraded, extending their service life while significantly improving their performance.
FanWall technology continuously adapts fan operation to the actual requirements of the installation, ensuring greater operational efficiency, lower energy consumption, improved airflow control and greater flexibility. Depending on operating conditions, the solution can reduce energy consumption by up to 40%, with annual savings of up to 17,000 kWh in larger installations.
The benefits also extend to system reliability, through reduced noise, lower mechanical stress on components and less need for corrective maintenance, helping to increase equipment availability and reduce operating costs. With a return on investment that can be achieved in less than three years, WALLFIT is a particularly attractive solution for renovation and energy optimisation projects.
To support this process, Arfit has also developed the WALLFIT selection software, a digital tool that analyses the energy performance of existing fans, identifies opportunities for improvement and automatically selects the most suitable solution. The software generates a technical and financial assessment detailing current energy consumption, estimated savings and the corresponding return on investment, enabling each proposal to be supported by robust data and analysis.
Compatible with Building Management Systems (BMS) via Modbus communication, WALLFIT also enables continuous equipment monitoring and more efficient energy management.
By reusing the existing AHU structure, the solution reduces raw material consumption, avoids waste associated with the complete replacement of equipment and lowers the embodied carbon of the intervention. More than just a retrofit solution, WALLFIT reflects Arfit’s vision for the intelligent, efficient and sustainable modernisation of HVAC systems.
